After our first dive the Stella Maris took us to Mackeral Bay at Hook Island, where we would be mooring for the night. Our original plans would have had us travelling to the Great Barrier Reef (although referred to locally as the 'outer reef'), but strong northerly winds were roughing up the seas and made this impractical. The same winds were adversely impacting on our visibility.

I had learnt from my first open water dive, and this time I was carrying more weight, and my mask was fitted properly. After the exercises we explored the surrounding coral reefs, which were spectacular. The current was reasonably strong, but things proceeded much more smoothly than the first dive, primarily due to me having more experience. This is definitely worth being in a cramped cabin that reeks of diesel for my honeymoon.
